Our Vision and Values

At Merdon we are a school that constantly strives towards providing the best for our children, both academically and emotionally.  We aim to encourage, support and challenge the children to achieve their best.

Our values run throughout the school and are captured through our HEART and IGNITE values which which support our approach to learning and caring for each other.  Our HEART values of Honesty, Excellence, Attitude, Respect and Thoughtfulness support us all in learning and also in our approach to each other as good citizens of the future.

Our IGNITE values ensure that we are all equipped with solid learning values that support and challenge our thinking and help us feel safe, confident and honest about our learning

Location and Context

Merdon Junior School is situated in an attractive residential area of Chandlers Ford, which lies between Southampton and Winchester. The children benefit from being able to play and learn in our extensive school grounds.

Our school caters for children from 7–11years of age. There are currently 260 children taught in 8 classes with 2 classes per year group.

Most children join our school directly from Chandler's Ford Infant School, while some come from local infant schools or due to relocation. Although not on the same site, liaison between the two schools is given a high priority, and regular meetings are held to ensure continuity of education.

At age 11 the designated two secondary schools for the children to transfer to are Thornden (Arts Status School) and Toynbee (Sports Status School), both of which have excellent reputations.  Some of our children also choose to attend Kings School, based in Winchester.
