At Merdon, we recognise and value all beliefs & religions and teach them through the Hampshire syllabus called 'Living Difference'. Children are encouraged to learn and value different religious beliefs, with a focus to understanding key concepts which span a variety of religions, these include such themes as forgiveness, flight and sacred places.
Through assemblies, we recognise key dates in a variety of religions and share and celebrate Christian festivals with the children, such as Christmas and Easter.
As a school, we seek out opportunities to use first hand sources and visitors to speak to our children about religion. Children also take part in an annual RE week where all lessons are planned to teach the children about a particular faith in the most creative way possible. The week also includes a trip to visit the place of worship for the faith and dance and art workshops by visiting specialists. Parents are encouraged to become involved by sharing their experiences and helping with activities such as cooking.
