This half term our writing will be linked to our text 'Little Wolf's book of badness' written by Ian Whybrow.
In the story, Little Wolf is on a journey and travels through many different places. We will be writing a setting description for Frettnin Forest. To provide us with inspiration, we went on a noun and adjective hunt in the copse.
We have been thinking about the craft question, 'How can I paint a picture with my words?'.
We looked at different sentence structures and then used the words and ideas we collected in the copse to help us bring a setting to life with our description. Our Kung Fu punctuation helped us remember where to put the commas.
After lots of effort, we wrote our final paragraphs to describe a picture that could have been Lake Lemming. We included super adjective choices, lots of different prepositions and varied the structure of our sentences to include fronted adverbials - trying hard to remember the commas.
Following on from describing a setting, we have been focusing on how to describe a character, using their personality and appearance. We have used the character of Uncle Bigbad from our text (Little Wolf’s Book of Badness). Using the text, we drew a picture of Uncle Bigbad and then wrote a description of him. We used all of this to create a wanted poster for him.
Today we have been studying explanation texts. We looked at how they sort information into paragraphs and we had a try at organising facts into groups.
We read an explanation of ‘The Bedroom Tidying Machine’ and then imitated some of the sentences to start to write an explanation of how ‘The Classroom Tidying machine’ might work.
