Our Vision: Growing Thoughtful Learners for Future Successes.
At Merdon Junior School, we are dedicated to growing happy, ambitious learners within a nurturing environment. Together as a community, we lead and prepare our children to be ready to make a positive, long-lasting difference in our ever-changing world.
At the start of the 2025/26 academic year, we relaunched our vision and values. We asked all the children across the school to create a piece of artwork to show what it meant to them. We then asked a small group of children to create one final piece of artwork to share all these ideas and this is what they created:

Our Values
Aspirational
We commit to igniting the potential within everyone in our school.
Connected
We recognise and value the connections within our world and our place within it.
Thoughtful
We make thoughtful choice to shape a better future.
ACT as a Person
A – Aspirational
We aspire for our children to become well-rounded citizens who make a positive impact at local, national, and global levels. Our children are empowered to make a difference.
C – Connected
We recognise the interconnectedness of all individuals and the benefits of working together. We celebrate the diversity within and outside of our school
T – Thoughtful
We engage thoughtfully with others, demonstrating kindness, respect, and safety in all our interactions.
ACT as a Learner
A – Aspirational
We want all our children to reach their highest potential in academic attainment as well as in extended areas such as sports, arts, music, and drama.
C – Connected
Our learning and curriculum design are intentionally linked to real-life scenarios. We aim for our learners to understand how our school connects them to their future.
T – Thoughtful
We want our children to reflect thoughtfully on their own learning and that of others. ‘Let’s Think’ lessons are embedded throughout our curriculum.
ACT Towards Our World
A – Aspirational
We aim to make our world a better place. We see ourselves as guardians of our planet, understanding that the future rests in our hands.
C – Connected
We are connected to our world and believe that children’s natural curiosity will inspire them to advocate for the best outcomes for our planet.
T – Thoughtful
We think carefully about how we live sustainably and recognise our role in this effort. A significant portion of our curriculum is delivered outdoors to enhance our understanding of the environment.
