Maths
We started the term with some learning on length. We have been thinking about the best units of measures to find the length of different things.
We have been exploring the links between metres and centimetres and the link between centimetres and millimetres.
Using the facts 1 metre = 100 cm and 1cm = 10 millimetres, we have been able to convert measures, order measures, compare measures.
We have been using our knowledge of metres, centimetres and millimetres to solve questions where we need to add and subtract lengths. We had to remember to look carefully at the units of measurement to check that they were the same.
Addition and subtraction
We have been thinking about ways to improve our Mental maths skills.
We revised our knowledge of multiples of 10 and practised solving questions like 8 + 7 by changing it to 8 + 2 + 5. Then we could use our numberbonds for 10 to help us solve them.
Next, we thought about how we could adapt our work from yesterday to solve questions like
80 + 70 and 270 + 60. We are getting quite quick.
Maths Warm ups
This week we have been improving our skills at adding HTO + HTO were we need to cross boundaries. We recapped pictorial representation before practising both expand3d and formal vertical methods. We worked really hard on our presentation to make sure the columns lined up.
We worked on solving questions like 572 - 238 and 419 - 175 using place value counters and with our learning partners on the whiteboard tables before having a go in our books.
