All flowers are similar but different

Wind pollination vs. Insect pollination

Today, we learnt about how all flowers are different because of the way they pollinate. Some flowers use wind pollination and others are pollinated by insects.

We learnt that flowers which are pollinated by insects are brightly coloured and have strong scents, such as lavender, to attract insects. Whilst wind pollinated plants, such as grasses, are not brightly coloured and do not have very strong scents. However, some grasses have evolved it grow tall so that their pollen can be easily caught in the breeze.

The children sorted pictures of plants depending on whether they thought they were wind pollinated or insect pollinated.
