2024/25
3v3 Basketball Tournament
On Tuesday 20th November, a squad of Year 6 children competed in a basketball tournament at Thornden School. The children played 3v3 matches and worked amazingly as a team, resulting in them coming 2nd in their pool. They just missed out on getting a place in the final, but all the children showed fantastic sportsmanship and supported each other brilliantly. We certainly have some very talented basketball players at Merdon! A huge well done to Joey, Ben, Savannah, Elsa, Tom, William and Oscar.

WINNERS! Eastleigh Cup Football Tournament
A HUGE well done to the Year 6 boys who took part in the Eastleigh Cup football tournament on 13th December. There were 11 teams involved in the tournament and the children played a total of 7 matches. The boys didn’t let any goals in during their games, and played some absolutely fantastic football. The semi final and the final went down to penalties (which was extremely nerve-racking). The children did absolutely brilliantly and worked amazingly as a team- a truly well deserved win!
Congratulations to Charlie M, Dylan, Charlie W, Oscar, Seb, Ben, Jackson H, Leo R, Nathan and Jenson.

Girls Football Tournament
The Year 6 girls football team played their first tournament at Toynbee School on 22nd January. Although the result wasn't what the girls had wished for, they showed fantastic perseverance, team work, determination and a wonderfully positive attitude.
Well done: Alice, Niamh, Miela, Elsa, Evelyn, Ellie, Eunice, Ochuwa, Ella

Year 3 Basketball Festival
A group of Year 3 children had a fantastic time at Peter Symonds on Friday 24th January. They spent the afternoon improving their basketball knowledge and dribbling, shooting and passing skills, by completing a circuit of skill-based drills lead by the college Sports Leaders. They ended the afternoon playing competitive 3V3 basketball games against other schools.
Well done to Fyre, Sam, Arlo, Alivia, Theo, Phillippa, Amy, Aoife, Sienna-Rose, Charlie, Archie and Zeinah.

Year 4 & 5 Cross Country
On Wednesday 29th January, a group of Year 4 and Year 5 children took part in a cross country race, organised by and held at The Gregg School. Luckily the rain held off and the muddy conditions didn't slow down our competitors. All the children ran brilliantly and gave it their all!
Well done to Jessica, Ria, Tyler, Betsy, Phinn, Charlie C, Theo, Marc, Luke, Lauren, Clare & Francesca
A special congratulations to Lauren, who won 3rd place and Theo, who won 2nd place!

WINNERS! Year 6 Badminton Tournament
On Wednesday 29th January, a group of Year 6 children took part in a badminton tournament, held at Thornden School. The children played a total of 4 schools, which consisted of both single and double matches. The children played amazingly and accumulated the highest number of points, resulting in them qualifying for the regional finals, that will be held later this year.
Congratulations to William A, Charlie M, Jess and Seb
