Arts Week
Year 3 started their Arts week by listening to a soundscape and drawing the scene that they imagined. Then the painting ‘The Courtyard of a House in Delft’ was revealed piece by piece! The children had to discuss what they could see, what they thought and any questions they had.
In the afternoon, we asked them to imagine they had stepped into the picture and produce some freeze frames. Then they produced their own soundscape for the picture.
We put our Never Give Up skills to the test when we tried to make Leonardo de Vinci’s free-standing bridge.
After looking closely at the painting, we designed an made our own arches...
We took our arches outside to find a view we liked to take a photo. Could this be what is beyond the arch?
We thought about what might be beyond the arch in the painting. Deciding it was a village, we thought about all the types of buildings we might need.
We disassembled a box and used it to make the buildings we had designed.

We arranged our houses into a village that could have been beyond the arch in the painting...
