Intent

At the end of KS2, children at Merdon will leave our school with a desire to further their knowledge of a modern foreign language and extend their curiosity about the wider world.

They will be able to engage in simple conversation in French, answering questions about themselves and they will enjoy communicating with others in another language. 

Throughout the key stage, all the children will be given the opportunity to develop their reading of increasingly complex texts and they will begin to express ideas using the written language, preparing them for a seamless transition to their Key Stage 3 learning.

Children will leave Merdon with a knowledge and appreciation of French cultures and an understanding that to communicate in another language allows you to experience the world at first hand.
