Maths
Today we started our Maths learning by re-capping place value. We explored how to make different numbers using a range of representations.

We have been exploring how to place different numbers on number lines. Firstly we asked the children how they could fill in a number line that was bland apart from having zero and one hundred at either end. We then discussed how to work out missing numbers on number lines before giving the children time to work independently.

We have been continuing our learning by using place value counters and Base 10 to make 3 digit numbers.

Can you work out the numbers we are representing? How many hundreds? Tens? Ones?
We revisited partitioning 2 digit numbers and then moved onto partitioning 3 digit numbers. We also explored how to use flexible partitioning.

We explored finding 1, 10 and 100 more or less than a number.

Addition and Subtraction
We worked in pairs to share what we remembered about adding and taking away from Year 2. We had lots of great methods.

We have been using our number bonds and building our fluency when adding and subtracting ones, tens and hundreds from 3 digit numbers.

This week, we have been working on our fluency...

We have been practicing adding one and tens to a 3 digit number where you need to make an exchange...

We have been building our fluency at solving questions like 81 - 5 using our mental maths strategies and recording on a number line. We explored why our number bonds for 10 are useful to help us.

Next, we practised our pairs of multiples of ten that totalled 100.
0 + 100, 10 + 90, 20 + 80, 30 + 70, 40 + 60, 50 + 50
We use this skill to help use solve questions like 230 - 50 on a number line. Some of us made super progress with our mental maths calculations.

Our final skill of the half term was to solve HTO + HTO and HTO - HTO where there is no exchange. Eg. 2 4 5 + 1 3 4 and 6 7 3 - 4 3 1.
Everyone worked really hard at using the squares to help us set this out vertically, making sure the digits were in the correct columns.
