Tuesday 27th September - Boys Football Festival, Toynbee School
On Tuesday we took a team to Toynbee School to take part in a football tournament. They played a number of 7 a-side games against local schools. It was fantastic to see them working so well as a team coming away with a couple of draws and a win. Even the heavy rain couldn't dampen their spirits!
Wednesday 12th Oct - Commonwealth Games Festival, Kings’ School
On Wednesday some of our year 6 children had the opportunity to take part in a CWG themed festival hosted by Kings’ School. The children took part in a carrousel of 10 different activities which included; boxing, boccia, archery, squash, netball, cricket, basketball, volley ball, badminton and rhythmic gymnastics.
It was a brilliant event run by Kings’ pupils and the children had lots of fun trying their hands at new things.
Wednesday 9th Nov - Basketball competition, Thornden School
This week our year 6 basketball team took part in a tournament at Thornden School. They played a 3 v 3 format much like we saw at the Olympic Games. Their first game saw them take a 12-6 lead against St Francis. The second match was closely contested and we came away with a 2 point loss against Scantabout. The final match was against a very strong Knightwood side who took the win. A huge well done to all the players!
Thursday 24th November - Hampshire Cup Game
On Thursday our 5/6 boys’ football team played a Hampshire Cup match against Sarisbury Juniors. This was a closely fought game which saw both teams head into extra time 2-2. Sadly Sarisbury snuck a 3rd goal and took the win. Well done to all the players for battling hard until the final whistle - you did Merdon proud!
Wednesday 7th December - XCountry, Places Leisure
This week some of our children took part in the X-Country Championships at Places Leisure. They had to run a 1.5km course and competed against lots of other runners from the Eastleigh and Winchester area. All children gave it their all and some have even qualified for the Hampshire Championships that will be held next year - watch this space!
A huge well done to all our runners!
Thursday 12th Jan 2023 - Badminton tournament, Thornden School
On Thursday 4 of our year 6 pupils represented Merdon at the School Games Badminton tournament. They played a range of singles and doubles matches against schools from the Winchester and Eastleigh District. It was a fantastic display of badminton which saw them finishing 3rd overall. Well done all!
Tuesday 24th Jan - Girls football tournament, Toynbee School
On Tuesday we took our Year 6 Girls football team to a tournament at Toynbee School. There was a huge turn out to this event with 14 schools taking part and over 140 girls playing which was fantastic to see! The team played brilliantly securing a win, 3 draws and a loss in their pool, which saw them come 4th overall. We couldn't be prouder of their teamwork and positive attitude on pitch. Well done girls!
Tuesday 7th March - Hampshire Cross Country Championships, Basingstoke
Well done to our two runners who represented the Winchester and Eastleigh District at the County Championships. They joined 10 other children from the district and raced against 13 district teams. With approximately 156 children in each race they can be incredibly proud of themselves, coming in the top third! Brilliant effort, well done both of you!
Thursday 9th March - Mixed netball tournament, Thornden School
One of our netball teams took part in a tournament hosted by Thornden School. Due to bad weather the tournament took place in the sports hall and the children played on a third of a netball court with basketball hoops. Whilst this wasn't ideal and all netball rules were out of the window, the team adapted well and performed brilliantly. They won their matches against Hiltingbury and Tanners Brook and they drew against Knightwood.
We are now looking forward to the Level 2 competition that will be held at Kings' School in a couple of weeks. Good luck team!
Wednesday 22nd March 2023 - Bee netball tournament, Kings' School
This week we took a netball team to Kings' School to take part in the Winchester and Eastleigh Bee netball tournament. The team played 5 matches against other schools from the district and placed third in their pool. All the players rotated their positions which showed their versatility on court and they all demonstrated fantastic netball skills. Well done team!
Monday 27th March - Sparsholt Tag Rugby Festival
On Monday we took a team to Winchester Rugby Club to take part in the Sparsholt Tag Rugby festival. They played 7 schools from the district and put in a fantastic performance which saw them winning the award for the most tries scored in the whole tournament! We are so proud of their achievement. Well done all!
Tuesday 16th May - Dynamos Cricket Competition, St Cross Cricket Club
On Tuesday we took 10 of our cricketers to take part in the Winchester and Eastleigh District Dynamos Cricket Competition hosted at St Cross CC. Unlike last year, the sun shone for the entire day and the event was fantastic.
Our team played Dynamos rules which saw them all rotate as WK, Bowler and Fielders and they all took turns to bat in their pairs. We started the day with a couple of defeats but in the afternoon we won both of our matches against Compton and St Faiths.
Well done to all!
Friday 9th June 2023 - Penguins Swimming Gala, Winchester Sport and Leisure Centre
Our year 6 swim team took to the water at the annual Winchester Penguins swimming gala. There were over 20 schools in attendance and the standard of swimming was extremely high. Our swimmers took part in the 4 x 4 freestyle relay and 4 x 4 mixed stroke relay. Both teams finished high in their heats and our girls team qualified for the final in both their events, coming away with 5th and 6th positions overall!
Well done swim team - you did Merdon proud!
Thursday 22nd June - Hampshire School Games Sport & Physical Activity Festival, Winchester
We were one of many lucky schools invited to attend the annual Hampshire School Games festival which was held at the Winchester sports complex. Throughout the day our children experienced a number of new activities with the firm favourites being African drumming and Nerf wars!
