Computing
At Merdon, we aim to prepare our learners for the future by giving them the opportunities to gain knowledge and develop skills that will equip them for an ever-changing digital world. It is our intention that the children will be able to use technology to pursue curiosity on multiple platforms. Knowledge and understanding of computing is of increasing importance for the children's future, both at home and for employment.
Our intent is that by then end of Year 6 all children are able to access the online world ensuring they are safe, competent and resilient. They need to have the skills to think critically and have a strong sense of self to question what they find.
Children will be able to confidently word process using a variety of software as well as be able to edit what they write and save their work.
Throughout the key stage, children will be able to code and debug programs online, working collaboratively and using different software.
When children leave Merdon at the end of Year 6, they will be able to create a variety of media through design, photo, video and audio and be able to evaluate and improve their work own creations.
Our children say...
'My favourite thing about computing is coding.'
'We do loads of things like Tinkercad, spreadsheets, typing, PowerPoint and Scratch.'
'Now I know how to use Scratch I use is at home too.'
'Computing is important because we need to keep up with technology and we will use it for jobs in the future.'
