We started our study of Foundling stories looking at the book ‘Greenling’
Before reading , we looked at some of the pictures to see what we could infer about the story.
After reading some of the book, we thought about what the character said and did tile us about what they were like.
We enjoyed reading the rest of the story and thinking about how the character’s feeling about the Greenling changed.
Lots of us hoped he would come back the next year.
We worked on our reading comprehension skills with a Read Aloud Think Aloud using the text from the book.
Finally, we had a go at a setting opening using all our writing skills from last half term.
To help us with our writing, we use the working wall for ideas and word banks for spelling.
We looked at the features of Foundling stories and worked on our sentence structure before innovating a story plan and writing the openings to our stories. We used our editing skills to improve our writing.
We started looking at a new book!
First we just looked at images and thought about what they told us and how we could group them.
Next, we looked at some of the words from the story and thought about what they told us about the story. We made predictions, trying to give reasons.
After we listened to part of the story, we thought about what we learnt about the girl.
We tried ‘ hot seating’ the girl.
We discovered the book was called The Promise.
