Narrative - Can we innovate a story and show clear themes?
After reading Blue Penguin last half term, we have unpicked the themes and structures of the story and have innovated our own story.
First we created a new creature who was going to feel isolated from the others because he or she looked different.
Next, we planned our story using the structure of Blue Penguin as a model.
We have been busy thinking about vocabulary and working on our sentence structure to help us with our writing.
Lots of writing, editing and improving...
What will our final drafts look like?
The Jabberwock - Can we create images with our word choices?
We recalled our work on word classes. nouns, verbs and adjectives. We tried to use the colour codes to add words to the stem sentences to describe different pictures. We had to play around with the words to until we were happy with what we had written.
Finally, we heard the whole poem. We did a Read aloud, think aloud based on the whole poem and performed part of it to each other in groups.
How can we make our information texts sound like a book?
During our guided reading sessions, we have been looking at the features of information texts and skimming and scanning for information.
We looked at the types of questions that would make good sub-headings and tried to sort statements to fit the headings.
