Geography
This half term we are exploring the question 'Is is impossible to live in Antarctica?'
The children will continue to develop their knowledge of Antarctica. They will then consider the similarities and differences of living in Chandlers Ford, the Arctic and Antarctica.
Can we design a settlement the size of Chandlers Ford in Antarctica?
This was the challenge we set the children today. Using their learning from this term, they are working in small groups to show how they could establish a settlement in Antarctica. They started by recalling what they have learned so far, then they discussed what a settlement would need. After watching some video clips about how we could live in space, they were off researching!
Climate
Today we explored what climate is. The children were asked to think about what elements of climate we could estimate and measure outside. We then went outside armed with a thermometer, a compass and an anemometer. Once we had recorded our findings we heading inside to investigate the weather for today in Chandlers Ford, Antarctica and the Arctic.
