Rivers
This term we will be studying rivers, looking at the physical and human features of rivers and the impacts. To start the topic, the children wrote down as much as they knew about rivers and then we looked at how water effects us and where it begins, the water cycle.
Continuing on our river journey, we have been looking at the features of a river from the source to the mouth.
Today the children got to put their knowledge and experience from in the classroom into practice whilst on our fieldwork trip. We all spent the morning at Hiltingbury lakes looking at the stream that flows from it. The children did lots of river activities there and were able to demonstrate their knowledge of river features and processes.
Some examples of the fieldwork
After seeing a river in action, the children spent the afternoon planning a river based on everything they’ve learnt. They then made it and had a go to see if the water flowed as planned.
