High Flight
We have been analysing and discussing the World War 2 pilot John Magee’s sonnet ‘High Flight‘. The children began by unpicking vocabulary and symbolism within the poem before attempting to recreate their own using the rhythm and rhyming patterns of the original. This was especially tricky as the 14 line with 10/11 syllables per line pattern was difficult. We added an extra layer of challenge by asking Year 6 to write one verse about the joys of flight and the other as a contrast about the terrors of flying.
