Homework
Homework will be set weekly on a Thursday and due in on Tuesday. Homework will consist of Spelling and Maths linked to work we've done in class. Please discuss with us if there are ever any issues with homework.
Homework 22.10.20
Spelling:
This week we have been learning about homophones (words that sound the same but have a different meaning and spelling). To make a change, we are setting an activity on the following website:
https://www.spellzone.com/word_lists/games-8251.htm
Select as many of the 4 games as you would like to play. You simply click on "Play as a single player" and the website will allow you to play without signing in.
Maths:
Next half term we will be learning to tell the time on both an analogue and a digital clock. The children will need to be able to tell the time with 5 minute intervals on an analogue clock and convert analogue and digital 24 hour clocks in order to achieve the Year 5 objectives. It would be really helpful over half term if you can practice telling the time on the analogue clock with your child as this is something many find very tricky.
Here are two websites that may help!

Homework 15.10.20
Maths - This the children have been set Mathletics homework linked to our work on column addition. See our Maths page for any support on how we have been teaching it. We do not expect the children to do this in their heads, please encourage the use of paper and pen to practice column addition or pictorial drawings.
Spelling - This week we have been looking at words that have silent letters and a soft C. Did you know that the silent K comes from the Norse language of the Vikings? Spelling lists can be found and practised on the Spelling Shed website. The list of spellings are;
Group 1: knock, knight, knee, science, scissors, ascend, descend, bicycle, exercise, century
Group 2: Knock, knight, knee, science, scissors
Homework 8th October 2020
Mathematics = Year 5 have come to the end of their place value unit so will be completing a recap activity linked to the work of the past 5 weeks.
Remember rockstars time stables is still accessible from home. We will be revising previous knowledge of 8’s next week.
Spelling = We have been revising the spelling rules for adding -ed (past tense) to verbs as we have noticed many children have forgotten these rules since lockdown! Please help your child consolidate these rules so that they apply them in their writing in the future. You can do this by giving them a mix of different verbs that they then have to add the correct -ed spelling according to the rules below. There is therefore NO list on Spelling Shed this week.
The children will bring home the rules today on a piece of paper.
