Homework 17.10.19
Spelling:
This week we have been learning about the prefix inter-, meaning between or during.
The following words are the spelling list for group 1:
internet, interact, intercity, interfere, international, interview, interrupt, interval.
The following words are the spelling list for group 2:
many, some, what, where, when, who, why, which.
Maths
The homework this week is about addition using the column method. We have been learning how to use this method this week so the children should be able to explain how to do it.
Homework 10.10.19
Spelling
This week we have been learning about the meaning of the prefix sub- (under). The following words have been set to learn for homework. Having taken on board some helpful feedback from parents, we have reduced the number of spellings to 8 and hope they are a little easier!
Group 1: subject, submit, submerge, subtitle, subway, submarine, subheading, substandard.
Group 2: little, really, saw, about, been, being, said, looked
Mathletics
In maths this week we have been learning about rounding to the nearest 100 and 1000. The children's homework has been set to give them the opportunity to practice these skills.
Homework 3/10/19
Spelling:
This week we are looking at more prefixes: ir-, im- and il- and finding out how they change the meaning of words. Most children have the following list:
Group 1: illegal, illegible, immature, impossible, immortal, impatient, imperfect, irregular, irrelevant, irresponsible.
Group 2: goes, does, doesn’t, would, should, could, went, were
Homework 26.9.19
Spelling
This week we have learnt about the prefix in-. We learnt that it changes the meaning of a word and makes it the opposite. Our spelling lists are:
Group 1: incorrect, inadequate, incurable, indefinite, inactive, invisible, insecure, inflexible, inelegant, inability.
Group 2: friend, believe, with, people, house, because.
Maths
This week in maths we have been learning about what happens when we add and subtract multiples of 10 and we have been finding out how to sort numbers by size. The homework this week practices the use of the greater than and less than signs, finding 10 more or less and showing which numbers are bigger and smaller.
Homework 19.9.19
Spelling
This week we have been looking at homophones - different words that sound the same but have a different spellings.
Most children have these words to learn:
accept, except, knot, not, peace, piece, plain, plane, weather, whether
Other children have the following:
meet, meat, here, hear, there, their, to, two
Maths
This week, we have been learning about place value of numbers. The homework supports work carried out in class on rounding to the nearest 10, partitioning numbers and counting in 2’s.
