Maths
After revising our Place Value work on numbers up to 100 from Year 2, we started to look at bigger numbers (up to 1000). We interpreted different representations, partitioned them in different ways and used stem sentences to help us describe them.
This week, we have been very busy mathematicians. We have been adding and subtracting 1s 10s and 100s. We have solved questions like..
264 + 5. 264 - 3
264 + 30. 264 - 30
264 +300. 264 - 200
Next, we looked at how to show the exchange when solving questions like 436 + 7. We worked with partners, shared our work on the class whiteboard and did some work in our books.
Today, we worked independently to solve more questions like 327 + 8 and we tried hard to present our work neatly and in an organised way; showing our working out clearly…
We worked in pairs as “solver and scribe”.
The solver has to explain and describe their method very clearly to the scribe, who is only allowed to draw and write what the solver asks them to!
Exchanging in the tens column...
We have been looking at subtraction. What do we need to do to solve questions like...
53 - 7 and. 435 - 9?
Lots of shared work to build our skills...
We practiced our skills in our books.
So much maths learning this week. Lots of crossing boundaries and super pictorial methods.
This week, in our learning about multiplication, we have been looking at equal groups.
We used the stem sentence: There are ___ groups of ___ to help us describe pictures and arrays.
Supermovers is really helping us to learn our times tables.
We have been learning how to record our sharing questions using different representations.
