Outdoor Learning
Inspired by our new English text, Robins class set off into the copse to see if they could follow Little Wolf's instructions and make a compass!
After making a compass (with varying levels of success!) Robin class set off on a bug hunt - looking for mini beasts to identify as either vertebrates or invertebrates.
As part of their outdoor learning, Goldfinch class took their Maths lesson outside! The first task was for them all to choose a stick, then on the playground they had to sort them all into size order. Next they were challenged to find something in the copse that was exactly 50mm, but they had no way to measure it! Once they had chosen something we headed into the outdoor classroom to check our measurements! Then a second challenge, could they now find something which they believed was 25cm, some of them used their first item to measure against! Then it was back inside to check how close we were!
In our Science lessons we have been studying skeletons. Linked to this, we challenged the children to create an image of an arm and hand based on an x ray. The first task was to determine how many bones there are in a human hand - see if your child can remember! Then we set off to the copse to collect sticks! Once we had enough it was onto the playground to create our masterpieces!
Today Robin class headed out to map the copse area! We have been looking at the map in our story ‘Little Wolf’s book of badness’ so we used that as inspiration. We took compasses outside so we could see which way was North, then we set about drawing everything we could see.
This afternoon, Goldfinch Class set off on a quest to find mini beasts/signs of animals in the copse, deciding whether they were vertebrates or invertebrates...
