PSHE and RSHE
By the end of Key Stage 2 our children will develop lifelong strategies which will positively affect their happiness and give them the skills they can apply to all aspects of their lives. These skills will be taught, modelled and developed as children grow.
By the time the children leave Year 6, they will have developed coping skills to manage a range of different situations and they will have had the chance to explore these through role play and scenarios. Children will develop confidence to speak up and speak out and likewise take on challenges.
PSHE lessons will lead children to be able to manage positive relationships within their friendships, home relationships and online. Children will be able to consider how to build positive relationships as well as show empathy and manage conflict. They will learn the importance of supporting the wider community and the positive contribution they can make towards this.
By understanding and learning about these themes, children at Merdon build a bank of strategies that they can then use when they need to. Developing the ability to apply these strategies stands them in good stead for any challenges they may face as they mature into teenagers and, eventually, into the well-rounded, emotionally attentive adults of the future. It’s these skills that will enable young people to pursue their ambitions and live their lives to the fullest, ultimately becoming as happy as they can be.
