How can we change the pitch of sounds?
Today we investigated how the pitch of sounds can vary. We played different notes on a xylophone and a drum, exploring how the size of the key or the skin affected the pitch of the sound. We used these investigations to draw conclusions. We then applied this knowledge to make a guitar using different sizes and thicknesses of electric bands.
How does sound travel?
We learnt about how sound travels through various mediums - air, water and solids. We then made paper cup telephones so we could explore how sound waves travel along string, from one cup to the other and then into our ears.
How are sounds made and how do we hear them?
Today we started our new Science topic - sound. We learnt about how we hear sounds and how sounds are made. We watched videos showing us slowed down and enlarged versions of different objects making sounds by vibrating. We then investigated seeing and feeling vibrations by different sound making objects- drums, triangles, our voices and tuning forks.
