Science
We recapped our learning about plants from Year 2. Our teachers were impressed by how much we remembered.
We reminded ourselves about the parts of a plant and talked about what each part did - some drama helped with this!
After a look around the school grounds for plants we recognised ( daffodils, crocuses, ivy, evergreen trees, deciduous trees, holly and bamboo - to name a few) we talked about the parts of a flowering plant. There were some parts we had not heard of before.
Next, we had to work very carefully, cooperatively and use our observation skills to dissect a daffodil to see if we could find all the parts we had talked about.
Longitudinal Study
We continued our “study over time”, to see how the change in season has affected one area of the school grounds. We worked together to observe changes in the trees and the environment, now that Spring is on its way..!
The day after we did our longitudinal study, we were surprised by the weather.
We learnt about the life cycle of flowering plants and acted out the different ways seeds can be dispersed...
Day 6 - Our onions are growing…
We set up an investigation to see what seeds needed to germinate. Each tray of seeds had a paper towel that we kept wet and then they were placed in different areas.
We predicted that the seeds that were by the windowsill in the sunlight, would germinate the best.
We were surprised by what we discovered...
