Year 5
Year 5 listened to a song written about the plight of refugees by Gregory Porter. They unpicked the words of the song and inferred the meaning from it. They then discussed a newspaper article and debated whether Paddington was a refugee or a migrant. Finally, they read a clever poem by Brian Bilston: The first reading of the poem reveals a negative attitude towards refugees. The children were asked what they thought about this opinion and they annotated the poem. They then were asked to read the poem backwards and it revealed a completely opposite attitude towards refugees.
